27 Feb – 22 April 2018

ButohOUT! is a newly initiated festival activating local communities in Victoria by fostering artistic and cultural exchanges through the powerful performing arts medium Butoh. Butoh is widely known as a Japanese theatre and dance art form but in this festival, artists will integrate it in the context of uniquely Australian culture, history and landscapes.

Renowned Melbourne-based performance artists Yumi Umiumare and Tony Yap will conduct various workshops, cumulating in epic performances at the Abbotsford Convent. Original new works will be generated and presented by participants during the public workshops together with local guest artists including Weave Movement Theatre, and international artist Agung Gunawan from Indonesia.

The public workshops, performances and public forum will be held between February and April 2018.

There will also be family and children orientated activities as well so please dance together with us at ButohOUT!
